Secure email connection to pick up and send mail

Use secure connections where you can to protect your email transmission

Thunderbird

Accentika Internet recommends Thunderbird as your desktop email client. 

To make a secure connection, click Tools -> Account Settings -> Add Account.

Fill in your name, full email address and password and continue. Thunderbird will attempt to find the best connection to your mail account.

Unfortuntately, the default settings will fail in this instance. 

There are several ways to create new account. This uses the create account wizard.

Select File -> New -> Mail Account and fill in your name, full email address and password. Click to continue.

All indicators should be green. If you see a red or orange indicator, click to edit and copy the settings below...

 Make sure your user name is your full email address and make sure the incoming and outgoing servers are Accentika Internet servers (rather than the more normal your domain name). For example, use pelican.accentikainternet.co.uk.

Check that the incoming mailserver is set to IMAP, 143, STARTTLS.

Similarly, outgoing server should be SMTP, 25, STARTTLS.

Now opt to re-check the configuration and your account should be created.

Your sending mail is blocked

Some ISPs prevent mail being sent by the standard "port" 25 (in an attempt to reduce spam sent by their networks. If you find, your attempts to send result in a "time-out" this may be the reason. Try changing the above SMTP setting from 25 to 587.

You can edit this settng in Thunderbird by navigating to 

Tools -> Account Settings -> Outgoing server

Selecting pelican mailserver and clicking edit. You can then change the default 25 port to 587.
