From database to printed directory: the integrated workflow

Acentika Internet integrates database management with DTP processing for cost-effective production of directories, product catalogues and show guides.

Complex relational database processing and desktop publishing page layout would seem to be from different worlds. But Accentika Internet has linked them together in database publishing system that is producing directories for one of Europe's largest business publishers.

The system enables all data entries, upsell information, logos, classified ads etc to be entered into a database. When the directory is ready to publish, the system produces a meta file that can be read directly into a DTP page layout program to create all the pages with graphics, advertisements, enhanced styles in place.

The system can produce pages for either of the two leading professional DTP packages, Adobe InDesign or Quark Xpress. This enables the resulting pages to enter the normal publishing workflow for further processing, or to be rendered as high resolution PDFs for transmission to print computer to plate (CTP) systems.
